GSK HIGH LEVEL GLASS REPLACEMENT
Following an urgent call from one of our largest clients Glazing Refurbishment Limited have this weekend conducted the replacement of 1no point fixed DGU at our blue chip clients flagship UK headquarters. Our client, one of the world’s largest multinational pharmaceutical companies contacted our dedicated account manager on Thursday afternoon following the breakage of their entrance atrium overhead glazing. After taking a detailed enquiry, account manager Dan Southwell was on the road within 30 minutes. Meeting the client and taking all project details including complete photo schedule, Dan was able to fully survey the site and swiftly ascertain all access, labour and ancillary requirements to complete the works safely. Back to the office and the works were carefully priced, sent to client and followed up with a phone call to ensure our client fully understood all elements of our proposal. After agreement of price all administration was finalised and the project materials made ready for the weekend operation. For high level works of this nature it’s vitally important that every risk to both our operatives and client is addressed. Site specific method statements/risk assessments were carefully produced, checked by H&S director and submitted to client. Once approved all site staff were sent copies via company issue PDA, read and signed to confirm understanding. The operation itself took place on Saturday, with all operatives onsite for an 8am start. First port of all call was the conveyance of all equipment, lifting items and protective materials to enable high level works to proceed. To enable works to proceed we required the use of a large 80m internal spider-lift. Manned by one of IPAF trained specialists the spider was set up beneath the glass breakage ready to conduct removal of the point fixings. At roof level two of our level 3 IRATA trained abseil technicians were busy setting up all secure rope latch-lines. This enabled all high level operatives to access the glazing via the use of full body harnesses and lanyard fall arrests. Staged boarding was placed upon the glazing ensuring our roof team could not come into contact with glass at anytime. At this stage productive works could begin. The onsite lifting frame was manoeuvred to works area with our specialist pneumatic suction lifer poised to remove existing fractured glass. Working together our team replaced the triple glazed unit swiftly and safely, old glass was carefully removed and disposed with our installation team ready at the rear to re-glaze and confirm point fixings were correctly installed. Finally our sealing specialist re-applied structural mastic and confirmed job completion Close communication between all parties was key to a safe and successful operation with internal and external operatives working cohesively to replace the high level DGU. Working with abseil technicians, large scale powered access and a glass unit that weighed over 300kg at a height of 120 feet requires seamless organisation, incredible communication and attention to detail that only Glazing Refurbishment can provide. This weekend’s operation added to our high level, difficult access portfolio that is unsurpassed by any of our competitors, keep an eye out for this week’s works at Citigroup, Canary Wharf – full details and project photo schedule coming soon!
