Safety Glass Requirements
What areas require safety glass Safety glazing is required in critical locations and wherever there is the risk of impact human or otherwise. Also special locations such as high level and shaped glazing where the risk of incidental failure also poses danger to the occupants below. The relevant safety standards and regulations are covered by Part N (Approved Document N) of schedule 1 of the Building Regulations which covers the requirements with respect to glazing safety. Also British Standards sets out guidance on the use of toughened safety glazing in BS 6206: 1981 (1994). This standard requires the glass to pass stringent tests involving impacts from a "punch bag" containing lead shot. Providing the glass does not break or breaks safely it is categorised as Class A, B, or C with A being the highest grade of safety glass. Premises Managers, facilities managers should establish whether glazing in their premises meets the current standards and take the necessary remedial action where these standards have not yet been implemented. If you have an older installation or are unsure if your building meets the current safety requirements, Glazing Refurbishments can assist. Our trained technicians will carry out a detailed survey and report pinpointing all areas that need attention. All works are then carried out in accordsnce with current regulations and backed by 25 years experience
