While trying to find good quality used hiking clothes on the net, I came across Patagonia's worn wear website.
The site immediately caught my attention: a nicely structured and informative website with a section where you could trade your Patagonia pieces in good condition for a credit to buy other items from their websites or retail stores.
Considering the ridiculous amount of waste the fashion industry accounts for each year, a big company actively trying to give its products a second life is an interesting news for me.
And there was more to that! On their main website, Patagonia takes part of the responsibility of where we are today and admits their implication and how purchasing offsets to reach carbon neutrality doesn't erase the footprint they've created.
The website has graphs about the amount of impact in each phase of production of the company. Plus, in-depth description of how they are working on improving each situation.
Many businesses are now advocating for reducing the carbon footprint and trying to show regret for their past actions. But I think taking responsibility for the past and genuinely showcasing their awareness of what they did is the kind of transparency needed now. And their active effort to work on it and provide support to community efforts is what's newsworthy for Patagonia.
