Cinosulfuron is a sulfonylurea herbicide used in flooded rice fields for post-emergent control of grasses and broad-leaved weeds such as water plantain, water clover, pondweed, nutsedge and gooseweed. It was developed by Syngenta (Ciba-Geigy/Novartis) and is primarily used in Asia and Europe.
Cinosulfuron is a powder and is registered as CAS #94593-91-6. Its formula is C15H19N5O7S with Mol Wt 413.4 It is classified as a sulfonylurea or triazinylsulfonylurea herbicide. IUPAC name is 1-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-3-[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)phenylsulfonyl]urea.
