The Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) is to replace the current TETRA network, provided by Airwave, with a new mobile communications network called the Emergency Services Network (ESN). The transition from the TETRA based radio system to EE's 4G network is well underway, however given recent updates on progress delays are expected up to at least 2021, and further concern has been raised regarding actual coverage provided by EE's 4G ESN in more remote areas and in existing Airwave poor coverage locations.
