Microwave Link and LOS Impact Assessments
Product Code: LOS, Microwave and Radio link verification
National, regional and local area planning requirements exist requiring developers to investigate potential impacts to existing telecommunications networks and wireless infrastructure, prior to the construction of any structures. We undertake such investigations.
Radio and microwave links can be adversely affected by obstructions on and near to their path such as construction cranes, wind turbines, buildings and trees. In general, the directional nature of radio links means that interference can be avoided by defining clearance zones beyond which any degradation will be insignificant, or by moving the link to avoid the obstruction. A methodology to calculate clearance zones for wind turbines has been defined in a paper published by Ofcom (Bacon, 2002) and this is also applicable for any other physically tall structure.
