Facts About Forklifts
07-01-2014
Forklifts are machines that help workmen to complete projects much quicker and with relative ease. A job could have taken several men to finish can be completed much more quickly with a forklift. A forklift can move, pick up and drop large objects and materials. For example, timber or piping on a construction site can be moved quickly with the help of a forklift.
Here are some other facts about forklifts:
1. Forklifts are ideal for a wide range of working environments. This includes construction, recycling and waste industries. Many farmers also have forklift vehicles with adjustments that allow them to change the vehicle into a truck which best suits their requirements.
2. Adjustments include buckets, long arms and shovels. You could transform a forklift into a snow plough easily by changing the adjustment, making it a versatile and flexible vehicle.
3. Forklifts come in a range of sizes to suit the worker and the environment. Smaller, or mini forklifts, can be used where space is tight –for example, in a warehouse. You may have seen these forklifts in your local DIY store where pallets are stacked up high and it would be difficult to retrieve them without the help of the forklift.
4. Forklifts are durable and can withstand extreme conditions. They are built to last, so any knock or scrape will easily be handled by a forklift. Their tyres have thick tread to manage the often uneven ground and muddy terrains which they are working in.
5. The operator sits inside the vehicle to operate it, in what is known as a “cab.”
6. You can hire or buy your own forklift. A project manager would have to weigh up how beneficial it is to have a forklift full time and buy it outright or whether the project only requires it for a short amount of time – and therefore only needs to temporarily hire it for the time span required. There are obviously benefits to both and depending on the line of work you are in, your choice can make a real difference.
7. Some companies have a wide variety of forklifts to suit their changing requirements. For example, a construction company might have large, more robust forklifts for very heavy duty works – like moving bricks or concrete. A smaller forklift might be required to manoeuvre materials in restricted environments which a building site can often present you with.
Overall forklifts have many benefits and their use has grown in popularity over the years as more houses and developments are being built, especially in the UK. Forklifts are used all around the world and offer the worker with a versatile and robust solution.
