The JV34IT oval door knob is a classic style of knob. This shape of knob can often be seen in old period properties and stately homes in the polished brass finish.  The set comes half sprung, which means that only one of the knobs in the set has a return spring.  This ensures that the action needed to use the knob is not to great and that it will always return the upright position once used.

Authentic Escutcheon Additions

For doors which need to be locked, such as bedrooms, studies or store rooms, a set of escutcheons would be required to hide the rough hole in the door where the key is inserted into the lock. Escutcheons can be covered or uncovered and the oval door knob can look very traditional and attractive when teamed with a covered escutcheon, which seems to give it more of an authentic period look. A covered escutcheon may be used for a bedroom where additional privacy is required, or on an external door, to stop the wind blowing through the keyhole.

Latched Bathroom Turns

A bathroom would require a turn and release to operate a bathroom lock or separate dead latch. The turn is simply operated to shoot the dead latch across to lock the door firmly. If a privacy function is added to a bathroom door, a turn and release is now necessary for Building Regulations approval, rather than a bolt or key, simply because you must be able to unlock the door from the outside in an emergency.
