Harlequin around the world - Lagos Ballroom opts for Harlequin dance floors
Located in Lagos, Nigeria is Val’s - The Dance Studio, splendidly furnished with Harlequin dance floors and recently opened as a legacy to the eponymous Val, twenty years after his death. The facility equipped with Harlequin Vitality and Fiesta in the main studio and Vitality, with Harlequin Studio in the other two, are a modern tribute to a story that dates back to south London of the nineteen fifties and the influence of a young civil engineering student named Valentine Humphrey Arewe Aneke. Long before Strictly Come Dancing there was the long-running TV show Come Dancing broadcast from regional ballroom studios as a head-to-head team competition with the highlight being a formation dancing finale. And supreme amongst ballroom formation dance teams were those created by Frank and Peggy Spencer from Penge. It was their studio where Val enrolled leading in due course to winning several gold, silver and bronze medals for his skills in Ballroom and Latin dance. Today Val’s – The Dance Studio, founded by daughter Angela Aneke retains a link to dance in 1950’s London through Founding Patron Peggy Spencer MBE. The new studios, with the dance floors installed by Angela’s brother, Desmond Aneke, offer a range of dance classes including, Latin, Ballroom, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, plus a series of Master Classes. Harlequin Floors wish the new venture well. You can follow Val's Dance Studio on social media - @valsdancers and www.facebook.com/valsthedancestudio
