For the Off-West End production of God’s Property by Arinze Kene, the show’s set designer was tasked with recreating a 1980s council estate kitchen in a small Soho theatre. To create the stage’s retro vinyl flooring, Harlequin Reversible was supplied with a garish 1980s lino print pattern to help bring the period production to life.
Produced by Talawa Theatre Company, Soho Theatre and the Albany, the show ran at the Soho Theatre Upstairs from February 26th – March 23rd, 2013. Set in south London in 1982, Ellen Cairns’ stunning set design encapsulates the period by recreating a suitably retro kitchen with chintzy wallpaper, curtains and patterned vinyl flooring from Harlequin.
Harlequin supplied a 25 metre roll of its Harlequin Reversible vinyl floor for the production of God’s Property. The original double-sided dance and stage floor is a different colour on each side – so it is already effectively two floors in one. And now thanks to Harlequin’s new printing capabilities, the system could be tailored to meet the set designer’s unique requirements.
“We are very excited to be adding printed flooring to our extensive range of vinyls.” said Caroline Reilly, UK Marketing Manager at Harlequin Floors. “We will also soon be offering a selection of standard patterns to give customers the option to customise designs to suit their individual requirements.”
Harlequin Reversible is the company’s most versatile loose-lay floor. Ideally laid on any hard, smooth surface, the lightweight calendered vinyl rolls out quickly, lays flat and stays flat. Hard-wearing and slip-resistant on both sides, the special wear coats are easy to maintain and ideal for stage and studio use.
Whilst providing a comfortable, safe and durable floor that continued to perform exceptionally throughout the four week production, the high quality vinyl floor print perfectly complemented the show’s 1980s council house kitchen set – recreated down to the finest detail.
