Facing the problem of teaching tap classes in the local village hall without damaging the new wooden floor, Alison Connor of Footsteps Theatrical Workshop turned to British Harlequin for advice.
Footsteps Theatrical Workshop is a busy dance school located in Hadlow, near Tonbridge in Kent. The solution recommended by British Harlequin was to purchase some rolls of Harlequin Reversible flooring, a roll-out removable dance floor which can be brought out ready for a dance class, then rolled up and stored away for next time – ideal for turning a village hall venue into a dance studio. As well as offering protection to the wooden floor beneath, Harlequin Reversible gives a good crisp tap sound, together with a non-slip performance surface each side which is well suited to all the other types of dance taught.
To complete the transformation of the village hall into a dance studio, Alison has purchased four of Harlequins professional studio quality ballet barres, which are lightweight yet sturdy and can easily be removed and stored in one of the cupboards in the hall until the next class. The value of sturdy, robust ballet barres has generally been accepted as essential for warm up and stretching exercises to properly increase blood flow to muscles and reduce the risk of injury before taking to the dance floor.
Readers, who may be facing similar challenges to Alison in running dance classes in venues that also have to provide facilities for many other users requiring dance floors to be removed after use, are welcome to discuss their requirements with British Harlequin. Also available from Harlequin, or online at www.harlequinshop.com are storage solutions such as Roll Straps and Roll Bags offering convenient means of carrying and storing rolls of flooring.
