Harlequin sends IADMS off with a smile
22-10-2014
Following three days of presentations, the 24th Annual Meeting of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) held in Basel, Switzerland concluded on Saturday night with the presentation of the Marjorie Moore Student Poster Award presented by Harlequin Floors. Group Marketing Manager for Harlequin, Mark Rasmussen, entertained the delegates by asking them to imagine the fictional world of 2040 and what the 50th Annual Meeting would be like if a similar organisation didn’t encourage students and new members. In this world, only four surviving members of this fictitious Association attended the meeting and Mark further amused the audience by listing four made-up names very similar to the names of current IADMS members.
Mark concluded with a reminder that this was why IADMS and Harlequin’s encouragement of the Association’s student members was so important before Jeff Russell, Assistant Professor, Athletic Training at Ohio University stepped up to announce the winner. Melissa Strzelinski, PT, MPT representing the Rocky Mountain University of the Health Professions, USA was judged the winner for her poster titled "A differential diagnosis challenge: greater trochanteric apophysitis in a young dancer with hip pain." and was presented with a trophy and cash prize. Afterwards Jeff thanked Harlequin for its commitment and enthusiasm. Membership of IADMS is drawn equally from the medical and dance professions, and has grown from an initial 48 members in 1991 to over 1000 members at present world-wide, representing over 40 countries. The award is named after the late Dr. Marjorie Moore in recognition of her long standing support for students within the Association and this was the third year it was sponsored by Harlequin.
