The Genee International Ballet Competition is the Royal Academy of Dance’s flagship event and this year it is heading back to London in September. After a five year absence when the Genee has visited Antwerp, Glasgow, Wellington, and Cape Town, the finest young dancers from around the world, trained in the RAD syllabus, will be heading for London from 10 – 19 September. They are in town to compete in what is recognised as one of the world’s most prestigious ballet competitions.
Harlequin Floors Group Marketing Manager, Mark Rasmussen talking about Harlequin’s involvement, said, “The Harlequin team is delighted that our floors have once again been chosen and that we are the official dance floor provider. It is essential that young dancers have the best floors available when training to minimise the risk of falls and longer term injuries.” He added, “Harlequin is also the brand of dance floor they will most frequently experience when they join professional dance companies.” RAD Chief Executive, Luke Rittner emphasising the importance of a good quality dance floor and endorsing the partnership with Harlequin, said, “We really couldn’t do our work without good floors and Harlequin provides good floors.”
The young competitors will enjoy 5 days of coaching by top choreographers before participating in the Semi-finals and then heading to the competition’s final at Sadlers Wells on 19th September 2015. The RAD also brings dance to the public and organised a variety of events in different pasrts of the United Kingdom that are not only for dancers. Last year they surprised and delighted commuters when a dance floor was set up at the central railway station in Antwerp and this year, Kings Cross Station is one of the ‘pop-up’ venues where the Harlequin installation team will be installing a Harlequin Liberty portable professional sprung dance floor with Harlequin Reversible vinyl dance surface.
The Genée International Ballet Competition, originated in London 84 years ago as the ‘Adeline Genée Gold Medal’ which was named after RAD's first president Dame Adeline Genée DBE, is now known simply as ‘the Genée.” In honour of the Genée returning home Harlequin Floors are giving two lucky entrants of our Genée competition the opportunity to each win a pair of highly coveted tickets to this year’s final, which has now sold out!
