Houlder’s Marine Design Consultancy supported and advised the Commissioners of Irish Lights (CIL) at every stage from concept to reality for the 79.90m Aids to Navigation Vessel, Granuaile.
Over a three year period the company worked closely with CIL in the development of the initial design of the vessel. The work continued through detailed design including an intensive study into the economic effectiveness of various propulsion systems.
The Houlder marine design team also developed the specification, allowing various shipyards to tender. The hull was constructed in Romania under Houlder's supervision, with outfitting and commissioning taking place in Holland after the hull was towed into Harlingen. Houlder was highly praised by Captain J. J. Hickey of CIL at the vessels commissioning in Dublin.
