The whole team here at Insight Security would like to wish all of our customers and suppliers, past, present and future, a wonderful Christmas break. We hope your holidays will be filled with joy and laughter and 2023 will be a wonderful year for all. Please note that our offices close at 1pm on Friday 23rd December and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 3rd of January 2023. We are shipping orders up to 2pm on Thursday 22nd of December and online orders placed over the festive holiday period will be despatched via courier when we return. Our courier services will be closed for the Christmas period and due to the seasonal workload we can’t guarantee that orders despatched on the 22nd of December will be delivered before January 3rd. Delivery Delays Affecting Christmas Greetings Sending traditional Christmas greetings cards and ordering gifts from suppliers like Amazon are all being affected by industrial action. Royal Mail has previously advised customers to get their greetings cards in the post as early as possible to ensure delivery before the 25th. But many people and businesses are choosing not to send cards or gifts and instead make valuable donations to charities they support. That’s exactly what we’ve done by making a donation to the Martletts Hospice, a local charity that cares for people living through terminal illness. Charity Donations in a Cashless Society The COVID pandemic has significantly accelerated the adoption of cashless payment systems in the UK. Over the past 12 months the value of contactless card transactions has escalated by a massive 72%. A report from the Charity Aid Foundation has noted that the proportion of cash donations has significantly decreased from 58% of donors in 2017 to just 23%. This move away from cash has an obvious impact on charity collections and others such as church donations. Charities and churches are encouraged to think about facilitating cashless donations using digital wallets such as Google Wallet, Applepay and Samsung Pay. These applications are installed onto people’s smartphones and use wireless capabilities to securely transmit payment data to terminals. One of the key advantages they provide is limiting the amount of personal and financial information people need to carry with them and therefore reducing risk. There is no need to carry physical cards or even a real wallet as account access is securely established from the mobile device. Many organisations are making it quick and easy for people to make donations via contactless cards and online giving platforms such as JustGiving, Enthuse and LocalGiving. But homeless people, living on the streets, rely on spare change donated by generous passers-by and the cashless society is exposing how vulnerable these unfortunate people are. The TSB has piloted a scheme in Scotland that offers bank accounts to homeless people and similarly HSBC offers a ‘No Fixed Address’ bank account service. These services enable homeless people to receive their benefits more securely and potentially enable donors with digital wallets to give them money directly to their bank accounts. But it`s important to remember how many of those living on the streets continue to rely on cash. Consider Those In Need Christmas and the end of what has been a very difficult year is a time for reflection as well as a time to look forward to 2023. It`s an important time of year to stop and think about those who are struggling and for all of us to provide as much assistance as we can.
