Crash and impact testing allows the automotive industry to visualise the pressure distribution of whiplash, airbags, seatbelts, head restraints and other impacts on the human body or any other test subject. Informed testing enables safer vehicle designs. Designers and engineers can now measure and minimise the elevated body surface pressures created between occupant and seat backs, head restraints, seat belts and airbags during rear or frontal impacts. Until recently, this impact pressure data has been difficult to obtain. The XSensor was developed to bridge this gap. The XSensor is a high-speed pressure mapping system that collects data at speeds of between 2,000 and 3,000 frames per second, giving designers and engineers the ability to gather critical impact pressure information in a range of different impact scenarios. Whiplash impacts, seat belt and airbag pressure, can all be monitored with the XSensor.
