On June 12th 2011, the Great Shaftesbury Run took place in the idyllic grounds of St Giles House to raise money for Wings For Life, the Philip Green Memorial School Horticultural Project and the Victoria Education Centre & Sports College Sparkle Appeal.
Wings For Life are a spinal cord research foundation, dedicated to finding effective treatments for spinal cord injuries; The Philip Green Memorial School Horticultural Project is a school for young people with learning difficulties, run by a group of parents; The Victoria Education Centre and Sports College Sparkle Appeal is a project to raise £4 million to build a new therapy centre at the Victoria Education Centre and Sports college, to better help educate, care for and provide therapy to children with physical difficulties.
The Great Shaftesbury Run first came to isoenergy’s attention after we were brought on board to install a renewable energy system at St Giles house. Despite consistent rain all day, there was a great turn out of around 300 people.
The day was split into two races: a 10km and a half marathon. Tristan Rodgers won the 10km in 42 minutes and 22 seconds and Daniel Hamilton won the half marathon with a time of 1 hour and 18 minutes.
After such a good turn out from so many hardy, weather proof individuals, isoenergy and the organisers hope the race will go from strength to strength every year.
