PV Electric or Photovoltaics or Solar Electricity systems work by capturing direct sunlight. Consequently they work at their best in the summer, however contrary to popular belief they do work on cloudy days, just not as well.
The amount of electricity generated by a PV system is directly related to the size of the array. In this way it can be calculated to produce the total amount of electricity required to run a house. However, as more electricity will be generated in summer than in winter either the system has to be linked into a battery storage unit (which is costly and high maintenance), or preferably, linked into the National Grid. In this way any excess power that you produce can be credited for supplying to the grid, then purchased back when needed in the winter. It can be worth it just to see the Electricity companies paying you for a change.
