Two J & E Hall Fusion Scroll commercial condensing units are at the heart of a new coldroom built to meet the needs of Edinburgh-based Harding Marine Services which supplies frozen food to vessels worldwide. Harding Marine Services is part of the internationally-renowned Admiral Harding Group of companies. Admiral Harding is a major supplier to the worldwide shipping industry, with the capability of shipping out goods and services to cruise, offshore, military and merchant vessels round the clock 365 days a year.
Harding Marine Services has 10,500 sq ft of storage over two floors and 15,000 sq ft of yard space at its Edinburgh base. The units at the firm’s Portobello warehouse were supplied by Milby Coldrooms. Harding Marine Services director Marcello Cossettini said: "We ship out £4 million plus of frozen and other food each year and we also have representation in Grangemouth, Glasgow and Aberdeen.”
Nigel Rodgers, managing director of Milby Coldrooms, designed the coldroom after detailed discussions with Marcello Cossettini. Mr Rodgers said: "We had a blank canvas to start from. He had containers which were costing a fortune to run, so he asked us if we could build something for him.
Two JEH-0725-L3 twin-fan units, with one operating as a back-up system were installed, together with a Maxicold LFJ23/5.9L evaporator. The project was completed within three weeks. The units were supplied by AFR Refrigeration of Wandsworth, London.
"The J & E Hall units are energy efficient and realiable,” explained Mr Rodgers. “It's a good UK brand name and in the unlikely event of a breakdown you can obtain parts from a UK wholesaler without having to wait for weeks. We have completed some big projects with this type of kit on it – including a 300-body mortuary at South Glasgow Hospital – and it has always been reliable for us."
