First BP Project

KD Marine have won a tender from BP Dalmeny for a diving inspection work scope on the Hound Point Sea Island, located 1km east of the Forth Rail Bridge, Firth of Forth.
The work scope was completed using KD Marine’s dive systems from onboard the Mulitcat Vessel Forth Constructor.
The core scope was:
UT Inspection of Leg Piles on Dolphins
1 Leg Pile per Dolphin – 16 dolphins in Total
UT Inspection of Pile Legs on Main Berths
4 Pile Legs per Berth – 3 Main Berths in Total
Total Number of Pile Legs to be Inspected = 28
Full Visual Inspection of the same Piles from Splash Zone to Touch Down.
NDT Scans of Selected Mooring Dolphin Welds on Hound Point 1
X2 Off Welds per Dolphin to have UT Inspection, one weld to be a ‘Node’ weld. ACFM inspection to check for fatigue cracking at these welds. Additional weld fatigue cracking scans will take place as required.
Full visual inspections will take place on all risers, fire water intakes, anodes and components on HP1 and HP2.
The campaign commenced in mid September and lasted for 19 days, meaning the project was completed in early October 2013.
Hound Point is a marine terminal in the Firth of Forth, Scotland, just east of the Forth Bridge. The terminal is made up of two sea-island berths that can load vessels of up to 350,000 DWT.
Mark Beadie, KD Marine Business Development Manager, said this about the project: “We are delighted to work with one of the biggest oil & gas operators in the world. We know a successful and efficient campaign will help us secure more work from BP over the coming years.”
He continues: “We only became a BP approved contractor towards the end of last year and have won work pretty quickly off the back of that, so we are quietly confident that more work will soon follow.”
