Kee Safety’s popular fall protection product, KeeGuard® Topfix, has been installed at a new Procter & Gamble manufacturing plant in South Africa which required a roof edge protection system to ensure optimum safety for those carrying out essential work at height.
Proctor & Gamble (P&G) is the largest consumer packaged goods company in the world, manufacturing a number of key household products in around 80 countries. Marking a milestone in its economic and social investment in South Africa, P&G opened a new plant in Johannesburg to manufacture nappies for its leading baby care brand, Pampers. To ensure safe roof access for those working at the plant, the P&G project team decided a collective fall protection system would be the best option.Due to its many benefits, Kee Safety’s KeeGuard®Topfix was specified for the project.
KeeGuard®Topfix provides the client with a collective protection systemthat protects everyone accessing the roof top, requires very little maintenance and no training. It is also a solution which contractors enjoy working with as it is extremely easy to install, something which was proven on this project with the installation of 500m being completed within 7 days. Kee Safety supplied and shipped the products from the UK through its export business, and project managed the installation alongside its South African partner.
P&G was delighted with the decision to use Kee Safety’s collective solution. “We needed to ensure that we specified the best product available, as our staff regularly access the roof” says the project manager at P&G. “KeeGuard® Topfix met our requirements and Kee Safety provided a great service – I would be happy to recommend their products to other Procter & Gamble operations. Kee Safety and its installers are one of the safest contracting teams I have ever worked with.”
An ‘off the shelf’ product, KeeGuard® Topfix incorporates a base plate, pre-assembled uprights and open cup fittings for quick and easy assembly. The specially designed base plate incorporates multiple fixing centres to allow for installation on a wide range of popular roofs. The base plates for standing seam roofs are fixed using non-penetrative, 2-part clamps while the plates on metal profile roofs are secured with minimal penetrations using rivets and butyl sealing strips to maintain the roof structure. KeeGuard® Topfix easily accommodates ridges, valleys, corners and other structural differences thanks to the use of standard Kee Klamp® fittings. With an upright base fitting that allows for 0-45 degree vertical adjustment and four fixing holes in the plate, the system can fit into the roof profile as straightforwardly as possible.
To ensure durability and longevity of this product, KeeGuard® Topfix is available in both galvanised steel and aluminium finish, ensuring high reliability over a long period of time. It also complies with the test requirements of BS EN 14122 part 3 and BS EN 13374 Class A.
