We have a range of different oils suitable for different temperature ranges. All are completely transparent to allow observation of reactions in glass vessels without any obstruction. We use a silicone oil that remains below its flash point throughout the working temperature range. Manufacturers of most heater/chillers recommend the use of heat transfer fluids above their flash points claiming that their safety systems make this safe, however in the case of a damaged flexible hose or vessel jacket, we believe that it is better not to have hot oil above its flash point being pumped around the lab.
