As a gift for his 60th birthday, KTR UK’s Technical Manager – Dave “Wing Commander” Webster recently journeyed to Duxford for a chance to fly a piece of aviation history.
Duxford Airfield is currently the site of the Imperial War Museum, the American Air Museum, and home to a wide range of commercial and military aircraft. As an RC model aircraft hobbyist, and general aircraft enthusiast, Dave jumped at the chance to take to the skies in one of these classic aircrafts.
In Dave’s case it was a De Havilland Tiger Moth that provided the thrills. A light aircraft bi-plane constructed mainly from wood and cloth materials, the Tiger Moth featured mainly as a training aircraft for pilots during WWII, but also provided some maritime surveillance and aided in defensive anti-invasion preparations.
Dave described the experience of flying in the open cockpit bi-plane as “windy”.
