Competence Meets Creativity
KTR are the leading manufacturer of high quality drive and brake components, and we have 50 years of experience in power transmission. Quality, innovation, speed, reliability and flexibility are important to us, so our in-house production and up to date machinery ensures accuracy across our product range. We produce several million couplings a year and offer solutions for a range of applications in various industries.
You Can Rely On Our Couplings And Brakes
A ship is so huge that it is easy to forget the smallest of components that make up its entirety. It's often these forgotten components such as brakes and couplings that are the most important in marine technology. Each product must be able to withstand demanding loads on or below deck, both in the harbour and out to sea.
Our couplings are subjected to numerous tests before going on a long voyage. As the applications these products find themselves in are not always near to dry land, it is important that they work correctly and to their maximum capabilities.
The couplings we recommend for marine technology (you can see a full list here) meet the strict standards of Germanischer Lloyd (GL) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas and Bureau Veritas.
The new KTR-STOP brakes, developed with marine technology in mind, are able to work under heavy loads with ease in comparison to conventional disc brakes. They can safely halt the ship's propulsion, a crane, or deck and operating winches.
RADEX-N
This double cardanic RADEX-N Composite is a special type of the RADEX-N steel laminae coupling and is designed using FEM (Finite Element Method). The stiff laminae are made from stainless steel springs that ensure that the high displacements caused by the constant motion from the waters tide are compensated for.
The biggest challenge for the RADEX-N Composite is to bridge the long distance between the driving shaft and impeller. Specifically designed to overcome this is the CFK spacer. These carbon fibre reinforced tubes allow for higher shaft lengths than normal steel tubes, which results in no bending. The tubes are attached with stainless steel flanges and bolted radially to ensure maximum operational safety.
The RADEX-N Composite is also corrosion resistant, lighter than steel, maintenance free, and can withstand high loading capacities making it the perfect solution in a marine environment.
ROTEX
ROTEX is another coupling that is used across the marine industry for freight and passenger vessels, including yachts. These various vessels are equipped with bow-thrusters or transverse rudders for better manoeuvrability in harbours.
