The recent launch of the "US Tier 4" and the "EU Stage IIIB" legislation and regulations on exhaust emissions has shifted a great focus onto the aim of increasing efficiency. They state that diesel engines greater than 130kW will have to reduce the harmful effects on the environment by reducing particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, whilst also regulating emission levels of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
