How was 2019 for KTR U.K.? 2019 was the best year for KTR U.K. Ltd and for the KTR Group as a whole. Although we were short of where we had budgeted we still improved on 2018.
Was there any major changes that occurred in 2019? The biggest change during 2019 was the uncertainty that had arisen in the market place (in the UK) due to Brexit. The first quarter of 2019 was steady in terms of sales, the second quarter showed an increase in orders coming from customers. This could be associated with the need by organisations to replenish stock and forward purchase due to the impending withdrawal date and the uncertainty of getting goods from the EU. This withdrawal date was further extended to Dec 31st and so the following two quarters were relatively constant with orders. After the General Election in December the optimism in the market place grew as the Conservatives won an unprecedented victory in the polls over Jeremy Corbyns Labour party.
What do you feel was the highlight for 2019? The overall work ethic and sense of camaraderie within the whole UK organisation was probably my personal highlight.
How do you feel the first month of 2020 has been? 2020 has started like a steam train. In January we achieved the best sales result in our 20 year history in the UK. The KTR Group also had its best ever January.
Going forward into 2020, what are some of your expectations? 2020 is full of expectations, not only in terms of growth and development of KTR but also the development of the individuals within the organisation. It has always been my goal to get everyone to question what they are doing and how they can improve on what they are doing. I believe that there are certain members of the organisation who are really becoming real assets to KTR as they take ownership of their roles and are challenging work practices.
Do you have any goals for KTR U.K. in 2020? My personal goals are always the same. Give 100%, have fun doing it, be an understanding boss, set ambitious targets and smile. If we do not enjoy what we are doing then the door is always open for us to leave and find employment that we do enjoy. You only live once, so make the most of it.
What do you feel is KTR U.K. strongest assets? This is easy – Its people.
Are there any improvements you would like to make in 2020? Personally – maybe be more understanding and praise people more. Business wise – maybe have more social events to build the team
What are your top priorities for KTR U.K. in 2020? Growth, Profitability, getting a better relationship between us and head office. Most important is hitting our targets and having fun doing it. I always say that sales is a game. When anyone plays games they have fun, laugh and enjoy what they are doing. We should do the same with business. People need to take responsibility for what actions they make. They should not be scared of making mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and this is how we learn as a species.
