Nike Hackney Five

ART&ASSEMBLY LTD is a fabrication studio based in London. They bring the quality and ethos of fine craft into fabrication. Through many years of experience, technical skills, creative talent and material knowledge under one roof they assist artists and designers to realistically visualise their vision. Art&Assembly approached us to produce 10,000 units of concrete medals for ‘Nike Hackney Five Mile Marathon’ event. Before settling on the final design and measurements, we did various tests in order to get the best results that the client was happy with. After final decisions were made we started off cutting the outer shape of the concrete on the water jet cutter. A water jet cutter is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water. After the main shape was cut out we created a jig to place the medals into to etch the design on top. Once the design was etched we made sure to get rid of all excess dust to create a polished finish.
