LCM Systems' Biggest Load Cell Goes to China
23-05-2014
With an innovative in-house design team and an advanced UK manufacturing facility, it was no surprise that Isle of Wight based load cell manufacturer, LCM Systems, won a contract to supply a 2000te TCA tension and compression load cell to China the largest in the company’s history.
The load cell was ordered by a leading supplier of weighing and process control equipment and has now been delivered and installed in one of China’s materials testing institutes. The load cell will be used as part of a certified test machine set up for analysing the tensile and compressive strength of a wide range of materials, including wire cables. At 860mm long and weighing 500kgs, this impressive load cell also benefits from being double bridged for both redundancy and the option of dual control and measurement, and has an accuracy of 0.2%.
“When the tender specifications came in, we knew that it would be challenge.” says Steve Sargeant, Managing Director at LCM Systems. “However, our design team has many years’ experience in designing bespoke load cells for niche applications, so I was confident that we would meet all the required criteria and produce a highly accurate and robust load cell that met the exact needs of the customer.”
Quality of the manufacturing process was also key to LCM Systems winning the order. The company has a proven track record in the design and manufacture of customised load cells and together with the fact that the load cell would be manufactured in the UK, under strict quality controlled procedures, made them the engineering company of choice for the project.
The project went without any hitches and was delivered on time and within budget. LCM Systems’ design team are now looking for their next “biggest” challenge.
