A very attractive dark coloured path topping suitable for paths, borders and cycle tracks. The range of stone sizes that make up this path topping help it to leave a firmer finish than standard gravels. On first appearance Charcoal Path Topping appears dark grey when dry but soon turns black as the product becomes wet. Charcoal Path Topping is ideal for applications where a firmer surface is required whilst still providing a gravelly surface effect. Path Toppings should be placed in layers and rolled using a vibrating roller to create a firm surface. We recommend 50mm depth for footpaths and borders. Charcoal Path Topping must be laid on a suitable free draining, compacted sub-base such as MOT Type 3 and it is essential that it is laid with a camber or crossfall to allow water to disperse. Poor drainage is the number one cause of surface failure. This product must not be laid when soaking wet or bone dry as compaction will be lost.
