Topsoil is essential for gardening and landscaping projects, from making raised beds to fill low spots in lawns. Top soil is often used when the natural soil is poor or non-existent. Mulch is another landscape material which is also important for the health and wellbeing of plants, vegetables and grasses. Mulch consists of materials, such as bark, decaying leaves, wood chips, compost and plant debris, that are spread over and around plants. Mulch also protects bare soil from erosion and helps lock in moisture.
