Marley Eternit Slate Offers Distinguished Look For Prestigious Aberdeenshire Housing Development
28-11-2010
When Aberdeen-based housing development company, Churchill Homes, was looking to design and build a prestigious new development in the rolling hills of the Aberdeenshire countryside, they turned to Marley Eternit and its extensive range of roof slates to provide the luxury homes with the aesthetic appeal they were seeking.
With the help of Marley Eternit, Churchill Homes selected the Rivendale fibre cement slates in blue/black, providing them with the aesthetic appeal and high quality finish that they desired. Although natural slate roofs are common place in the area, Churchill Homes was keen to explore all the options available to make sure the selected material was the one that would best meet its needs, as Gordon Pirie, Managing Director of Churchill Homes explains:
“Natural slates have for many years been a popular option for use on roofs in the Aberdeenshire area, but we wanted to look at all the options to make sure that we selected the roof slate that would best fit the individual development. After speaking to Marley Eternit, we opted for their Rivendale fibre cement slates. We discovered that not only did the fibre cement slates provide all the benefits traditionally associated with natural slate, but they also proved easier and therefore quicker to install. As all eight of the houses on the development were sold prior to its completion, this was an important factor as the quicker we finished the project, the sooner our customers could move in. Furthermore, the distinctive blue/black colour we selected contrasted well with the granite building material which featured heavily throughout the development.”
A total of 60,000 Rivendale fibre cement slates were used over a combined roof area in excess of 4,500 square metres. The Rivendale slates offer a finely detailed surface with dressed edges, which closely resemble the aesthetic appeal of natural slate. This coupled with the fact that the Rivendale is a lightweight, but strong and durable product, made it a winning solution for the Churchill Homes development.
Fibre cement slates deliver the economic, functional and environmental benefits of the very latest slate manufacturing technology. In addition, as Marley Eternits fibre cement slates are manufactured in the UK, they are the only slate product of its kind that can achieve an A or A+ rating, the lowest environmental impact in the Building Research Establishments (BRE) Green Guide to Specification.
