Dynamic imaging particle analysis systems usually use ?brightfield? ilumination to image the particles. This works well for partially transparent particles, however when opaque particles pass through a brightfield system they create essentially a sillouette image with no detail of the side facing the light source. Adding a darkfield option allows the side facing the camera to be illuminated to reveal surface details such as texture or colour. Fluid Imaging have incorporated both in their new FlowCAM Front-Fill option. The system has the ability to balance the combination of bright and darkfield illumination to best fit the nature of each sample being run. Differences in particle intensity could be used to differenciate one type of particle from another such as metallic and non metallic particles in the same sample. Contact us for further details
