HOT DESKING
23-06-2018
The hot desking policy concept it seems, is a little bit like marmite, you either 'love it or hate it'
The idea was first introduced in the United States back in the 90's, but the idea did'nt go down too well then, when there were some rebellions in the general workforce which mean returning back to fixed desks.
Hot Desks seem now to be well established in many bigger corporate companies throughout the world and looks like it here to stay. It's believed that around a third of all office workers in the UK are fulfilling the 'hot desk' policy.
It is estimated that office operating costs can be cut by approx 30% when implementing hot desking, which is good news for companies, and in the long term the economy.
The shuffling around between open tables, workstations on a daily basis might have an unsettling effect for some employees and does little to create a cohesive 'staff belonging'.
Many companies however have embraced and encouraged the idea of desk computer monitor name plates to create greater collaboration between co-workers.
