30 years of Nomads
We can't quite believe it's been 30 years since Duncan and Vicky started the Nomads journey! Join us as we take a look down memory lane, at some of the moments that made Nomads Clothing what it is today...
Duncan & Vicky meet in Pushkar, Rajasthan and soon decide to put together the last of their travel money to invest in a selection of fair trade handicrafts from Nepal to bring back to the UK, which they go on to sell at the first ever Nomads market stall in Camden, London.
After travelling to Thailand and India, Vicky and Duncan move to Brighton where they continue to sell at markets and festivals (Glastonbury is a favourite memory!)
1991 - 1993 Duncan and Vicky welcome their children Dan and Gaia into the world and relocate to Cornwall.
1994 - Nomads enters the world of wholesale, and we purchase a van to travel to our first trade show in London (an exciting time for us!).
We place our first wholesale order with fair trade suppliers in India and begin to establish our long-standing relationships.
1998 - We’re open! The flagship Nomads shop opens in Launceston.
1999 - It’s time to expand - we employ our first clothing designer and move to bigger premises.
Nomads become Nomads Clothing and we focus our attention on developing our womenswear collections.
004 - www.nomadsclothing.com is launched to retail customers and we enter the world of online shopping.
2008 - We introduce organic cotton jerseys to our collections (now our bestselling fabric!).
Nomads begin to support TAMWED with donations from profits which help to support a community health project in rural India. We continue to support this great organisation with donations, as well as fundraising efforts (like Vicky’s infamous Indian breakfast banquets).
2015 - Nomads head office moves to a bigger, brighter location with dedicated design rooms to house our growing team.
We launch our 100% biodegradable mailing bags, made from FSC sustainable sources.
2018 - Hooray, we’re GOTS certified! GOTS certification is the gold standard for the sustainable processing of textiles.
2019 -
