Drainage Stations are pumping stations which are used for land drainage in low lying areas subject to flooding due to their location below sea level.
There are often several pumping stations in catchment areas supplying a larger pumping station. When locks or dykes can no longer accept gravity flow from drainage pipelines, pumping stations take over. Water can then be typically pumped to higher ground for irrigation and at times higher land which is not in use may be flooded.
The pumps used in such applications are low head high flow pumps. Depending on location and access to electric or diesel driven.
