Flocculation and coagulation are used in the treatment of wastewater and processing as a means to remove 60-70% of organic matter. Use of coagulation and flocculation increases the efficiency of the treatment process and is often used with additional processes such as oxidization, filtration when used with a mixer.
Flocculation is the process whereby fine particles which are insoluble within a fluid form a flake and either sink or float to the surface after the addition of polymers.
Coagulation is the addition of salts from iron, aluminium titanium or zirconium to group contaminants together. With flocculation, these particles are made to sink or float.
