Multiphase pumps are designed to enable a higher recovery rate of Oil and Gas from old and marginal oil fields. Utilising Progressive Cavity pumps enables the handling of gas and liquids with a single piece of machinery, which can be distributed across various fields. This enables pumping to a central processing facility, rather than separate facilities being required for each location, reducing the costs of oil recovery, making extraction in such locations more feasible.
Progressing Cavity Pumps for multiphase pumping provides many advantages. PC Pumps can comfortably handle a range of liquids from heavy oil, to high sand, particulates, water content, and poor gas slugs of 30 minutes or more without issue.
The efficiency of Oily water separators is improved as the design affects oil particles the least due to its low shear movement, meaning separation equipment captures a greater amount of undamaged oil droplets. Such designs of pump are also known for their constant flow at varying viscosity and pressure, with a combined low NPSHR Requirement meaning problems are less likely to be encountered.
Pumps can be manufactured to be Automatic to enable operation in remote locations without labour on site, with full monitoring and control with minimal maintenance. Alternatively, units can be manually operated.
