As one of their popular names indicates the pumping action is done by a combination of a hose located inside the casing of the pump and a rotor with a set of rollers or pads/shoes compressing the hose, by pressing the hose while continually rotating the rollers or pads push the fluid out of the inlet side and onto the discharge side of the hose which means the flow rate achieved is directly proportional to the speed the rollers rotate and squeeze the tube/hose, this action also creates a negative pressure on the suction side of the pump of up to 9 m.w.c., meaning the pump can self-prime and reach a suction lift of up to 9 metres, this together with the ability to run dry indefinitely make the peristaltic pump a suitable option for most pumping applications. Another advantage these pumps have is how easy and cheap they are to maintain as the hose is both the only wearing part in the pump and the only part which is in contact with the fluid, this obviously means the compatibility of the hose is quite important as the wrong material could mean the hose has to be changed quite often increasing the running cost of the pump dramatically, another critical point when selecting a peristaltic pump is to select the running speed correctly, a pump running too quick for a long period of time could also damage the tube/hose therefore it is recommended to keep the running speed as low as possible for applications where a 24 hour operation is required. The NRT-300TB pump range is typically used in construction sites or remote locations where an electric power supply is not available, these pump range can be supplied with either a petrol engine or an electric motor, this pump range is available with three hose materials being natural rubber, Hypalon and nitrile rubber also called Buna or NBR. This particular model is recommended for applications with a max. operating time of 5 hours continuously and is not suitable for hazardous, non-safe environments as the pump is not explosion proof (ATEX) certified.
