Low viscosity liquids such as fuels often require a specialist solution. Due to the viscosity being close to water (1cp) slip can occur in positive displacement pumps. This is where part of the fluid recirculates within the pump head back towards the inlet. Pump internal parts which are specified for the incorrect fluid will often increase wear, leading to premature failure of the pump. Positive displacement pumps typically prefer viscous fluids to reach the required pressures and flow rates.
