H Type - SC
The H type cutting nozzle is one of the very earliest cutting nozzles designed to operate with the MS cutting torch originally made in the 1890's, yes that's how old this style of nozzle is, from the birth of the original BOC company. The original MS cutter was designed with a very good injector which was required as the only acetylene available was that generated in an acetylene generator. Acetylene generated directly from carbide in a factory acetylene generator only had an output pressure of around 2-4PSIG, by the time the gas was piped along a workshop the gas would not have sufficient pressure to exit the pipe which is why all cutting & welding torches had to be based around the injector system so as to pull the gas out of the pipe.
The "H" Type cutting nozzle has a curtain or ring flame heating flame which was common for all the early nozzle designs. The "SC" or self centring ability was only added much later in the nozzles life which improved the "H" type nozzle allowing an even heating flame to be achieved easily.
The H type cutting nozzle range is a two piece nozzle with a hexagonal brass inner nozzle paired with a brass outer. The nozzle inner screws directly into the torch head and has a single central cutting bore and in "SC" guise it has pre-heat slots for the heating gases to pass through before exiting as a ring flame at the nozzle tip. The nozzle outer seals against the torch head being clamped in place by the nozzle head nut.
The more modern incarnation of the BOC MS cutting torch was produced by C S Milne and was known as the MilFire or Spitfire cutting torch.
