It may have come to your attention that on the 10th October 2023 Microsoft Server 2012* will no longer be supported. We are writing to our customers to make them aware of this and to let them know of any compatibility issues with Sage 200 that may arise because of this.
There are several reasons why you might want to consider upgrading from Server 2012 to a newer version:
- End of Support – Server 2012 reaches end of support on October 10th 2023. This means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for this operating system, leaving your system vulnerable to security threats.
- Compatibility – as technology advances, software and hardware manufacturers may drop support for older operating systems such as Server 2012. If you are upgrading from Server 2012 and are running a version of Sage 200 that is older than 2022 R1, you may need to also upgrade your Sage 200 system. Your Account Manager is here to give you more information on this.
- New Features – newer versions of Windows server such as Server 2016, 2019 and 2022, offer a range of new features and improvements in areas such as security, visualisation, management and scalability. These features can help your organisation to be more efficient, secure and productive
- Performance – newer versions of Windows Server are typically optimised for better performance and efficiency, which can lead to faster processing times, improved system stability and increased productivity
Overall, upgrading from Server 2012 can help ensure that your system remains secure, up to date, and efficient, while also providing access to the latest features and technologies.
Is there anything else that I need to consider?
There may be a knock-on effect with your version of SQL Server (the database engine that underpins Sage 200). Upgrading from Server to 2012 could mean that a newer version of SQL Server is also required. Your IT company will be able to advise on this.
What do I need to do?
Firstly, speak to your IT people and find out what platform your Sage 200 is installed on and what plans they have in place to upgrade the server operating system onto a later version (if required).
If your IT people need more detailed Sage 200 compatibility information, please get in touch and we’ll supply the relevant documentation.
Once the plan is agreed, speak to your Onesys Account Manager to discuss your Sage 200 system and whether an upgrade is required to maintain compatibility. They can be contacted on 01423 330335 Option 1 or sales@onesys.co.uk
*if your Sage 200 system isn’t installed on Server 2012 you can ignore this message.
