Orkot Marine Bearings is introducing
Trelleborg Group partners Busak + Shamban
Norge and Trelleborg Industri on shared
Stand B01-31 at Norshipping this year and featuring the low-
friction TXM Marine grade bearing material that can run
continuously unlubricated as well as the cl
assic TLM composite material approved by a
ll the main classification societies for u
se
as rudder bearings and water lubricated stern tube bearings.
The latest options for greaseless operation are included in the
TLM approvals and it is typically now approved for 10 or even
15N/mm
2
bearing pressure, which is three times the
pressure for traditional bearing materials.
The TXMM range of marine bearings combines strength and great we
ar characteristics with very low friction, being made from
exceptionally strong medium weave fabri
cs and having a unique bearing surface incorpor
ating a high concentration of PTFE. It
can eliminate stick-slip probl
ems in many applications.
These self-lubricating bearings can run comp
letely dry, giving environmental as we
ll as maintenance advantages by eliminating
the need for grease. Elastic properties allow for be
aring deformation under heavy loads or misalignment.
TXMM was specified for the control surface bearings on the US
Navy’s new Virginia Class submarine and Orkot is the only
approved supplier for stern shaft, r
udder and stabiliser bearings and SKF
®
coupling covers for the new Royal Navy Type 45
Frigate.
The company’s extensive stocks and a global network of distributor
s ensure availability of bearings within 24hr. Engineers wil
l
provide technical assistance in selecting
the best bearing material for improved serv
ice life in marine applications including
rudders, stern shafts, stabilisers, m
ooring systems and deck machinery.
