Laser cutting technology operates by utilising computers to aim the beam of a high-powered laser at the material to be cut. This creates flawless incisions through the die board into which blades may be inserted. The substance then melts, burns, vaporises, or is blasted away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high grade surface finish.
One benefit of laser cutting over mechanical cutting is the lack of physical touch because there is no cutting edge to become contaminated by or contaminate the substance. Another advantage is that there is no wear on the laser. Because laser systems have a narrow heat-affected zone, there is less danger of distorting the material being cut. Materials that were previously unsuitable for laser cutting may now be sliced due to the narrow diameter of the cutting beam.
