What is ITSSAR?
ITSSAR, established in 1991, is a self-financing and non-profit making organisation formed to provide accreditation to training instructors and organisations offering industrial vehicles and construction training to industry.
In addition, ITSSAR develops and monitors standards for training in a broad range of industrial vehicles, operations, and processes. This is done through consultation with, and the support of, various trade organisations.
Through accreditation, ITSSAR provides the construction and industrial field with instructors that are known to possess the required knowledge to properly instruct employees in the safe operation of a broad range of mechanical handling equipment, including construction plant, crane operation, lifting and rigging operations, and slinging and signalling.
ITSSAR has joined and consulted with similar groups to form the Accrediting Bodies Association (ABA) 2012. This includes the following bodies:
The UK British Industrial Truck Association
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI)
Trade Union Congress (TUC)
Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
Through this consultation, ITSSAR developed, and introduced, an accreditation scheme driven by practical training specialists and aimed at improving the standards of training and safety in the operation of industrial vehicles.
ITSSAR is a body approved and listed as an accrediting organisation by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) in the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) for Forklift Operator Training. It is designed to cover all sectors of industry, which use industrial vehicles, and it registers and monitors instructors and training organisations meetings its standards. These standards are relevant, current, and comprehensive and meet national standards.
