Transforming the RAF Shawbury Nursery: A Play Area Designed for Early Years’ Development

RAF Shawbury has long prioritised high-quality facilities to support personnel and their families. However, the nursery facility lacked a truly engaging play environment for young children. Proludic was delighted to step in and transform the space into a vibrant, dynamic area tailored for early years’ learning and play. The newly designed play area now enhances children’s daily experiences with both educational and recreational benefits.

A Collaborative Effort for Success

To bring this vision to life, Proludic worked closely with the RAF Shawbury team to design and deliver a play area that is both visually appealing and developmentally beneficial. The result is an inviting outdoor space that seamlessly connects to the nursery, allowing children to move easily between their classroom and the play area. This fluid connection ensures outdoor exploration becomes a natural extension of the children’s daily activities.

A Play Area Designed for Development

The play space is carefully zoned to nurture various aspects of early childhood development:

• Social and Intellectual Growth: A storytelling area featuring a carved wooden throne and mushroom seating encourages imaginative play and communication skills. It provides a setting for children to engage in storytelling and social interaction.
• Physical and Sensory Play: The Baby Diabolo (J38709) structure accommodates up to 12 toddlers with 21 play functions, promoting movement, balance, and sensory development.
• Creative Exploration: Colourful arches, bridges, and animal-shaped structures inspire creativity. The bright play surface defines activity zones, while a “road” for ride-on toys adds an element of imaginative fun.
• Musical and Sensory Engagement: Features such as bongo drums, xylophones, and sensory flowers (J3418) enrich the sensory experience, sparking curiosity and engaging children’s senses.

Safety and Quality First

Proludic prioritised the use of durable, age-appropriate equipment, ensuring the play space meets the highest safety standards. Every element was carefully designed to ensure children can play and learn comfortably and securely.

A Warm Reception from the Community

Funded through the RAF station grant process, the project has been met with enthusiasm by staff, parents, and, most importantly, the children. The new play area underscores RAF Shawbury’s commitment to supporting families and fostering early childhood development.
