In response to Havant Borough Council’s call for natural aesthetics and durable materials to combat potential antisocial behaviour, Proludic embarked on a project at Bidbury Mead aimed at breathing new life into the existing playground. Nestled in a green and secluded setting, Bidbury Mead was more than just a playground; it was a vibrant hub for various activities such as cricket, walking, and football. With a steady stream of weekend users, the playground needed to cater to children of all ages and abilities, providing a safe and engaging space for play.
The old playground had seen better days, plagued by maintenance issues and deteriorating structures. Proludic recognised the need for a low-maintenance design that could withstand the test of time while incorporating safe and sustainable play solutions. Complicating matters further, the playground sat above a running spring, posing challenges for drainage and durability.
Undeterred, Proludic rose to the occasion, elevating the play equipment and implementing innovative solutions to protect against water damage. By laying a mulch surface on MOT stone above the existing ground level, they ensured that the equipment remained dry and accessible year-round, even during the wetter months. This thoughtful approach not only addressed drainage concerns but also provided a stable surface for visitors of all ages and abilities.
The completed project at Bidbury Mead stands as a testament to the successful integration of mixed materials, thoughtful design, and innovative solutions, creating a revitalised and inclusive playground that meets the diverse needs of the community while respecting the natural beauty of the surrounding environment.

For older children, Proludic strategically placed challenging equipment on grass matting, creating an environment conducive to exploration and adventure. From the inclusive Kanopé range to the Robinia-inspired roundabout, every element was carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Durable materials such as Robinia hardwood ensured resilience against decay, while a variety of features, including slides and climbing equipment, encouraged cooperative play and physical activity.
Despite facing challenges such as wet ground conditions during the installation process, Proludic’s efficient planning and meticulous attention to detail ensured a successful outcome. As the sun sets on Bidbury Mead, the newly revitalised playground stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design and innovation in creating inclusive and sustainable spaces for play.
