Nastec Constant Pressure Pumps
17-12-2015
It’s very satisfying to get water flowing from a new or refurbished borehole. But as time goes on, the pump driving it may be straining itself and draining energy far more than is good for its health and your pocket.
Typically, this is life with a fixed pressure pump. As water demand increases, it loses pressure. As demand drops, it overworks and risks running dry. Soon you can be facing repeated trouble-shooting, that could progress to premature failure and the prospect of an expensive refit.
Benefits that keep stacking up
With a built-in inverter that automatically adjusts around water demand, the NASTEC 4HS ensures constant pressure to your tap, sprinkler and exchangers linked to supported systems:
Changes pump speed to maintain set-pressure even during peak water demand
Intelligent control saves energy and extends pump life
Gentle pump starts and stops reducing mechanical stress
Pump and drive protected from overload, surges, dry running and voltage variations
Number of pump stages is a quarter of traditional 50 Hz
Mono-block single shaft reduces vibration for silent, smooth operation and extended motor life.
Variable speed means one pump can cover a wider range of hydraulic performance, allowing reduction in the pump variations you need to stock
Motor constructed for high thermal conductivity allowing safe use in pumping high-temperature water.
Built-in inverter module designed for high thermal conductivity for extended life from electronic components and greater mechanical resistance to vibration and external pressure
The Nastec 4HS is as close to a fit-and-forget pump as you would want – because every borehole, as smoothly as it may run, needs routine health-checks.
Security for you, your client as well as for the systems and people who depend on your borehole.
Customers review the Nastec range
Nastec At John Dinnis Farm Filston Farm Organic farmer, John Dinnis & Partners of Sevenoaks, installed a Nastec 4HS06/04 pump after on-going problems with a fixed speed pump.
As Proquip’s first Nastec customer back in June 2012, the farm has certainly been putting the pump through its paces. It supplies not only three troughs and a 3000l storage tank for irrigation, but also provides domestic water to no less than five houses.
And owner John Dinnis has never looked back: “Our Nastec pump has not missed a beat. Much better than the fixed speed pump. Fantastic and the backup received from Proquip was excellent.”
Nastec Kiosk Consultants, BA Hydro Solutions Ltd (BAHS), are converts to Nastec constant pressure technology, with pump orders now into double figures for nursery applications.
Tim Baker, principal hydrogeologist & director, said: “We recommend Nastec constant pressure pumps to our customers as they are very practical, reliable and cost-effective. BAHS has never had a pump break-down and Proquip always provide excellent support to us and our clients with technical aspects such as set-ups or changing settings.”
Constant pressure versus fixed speed pumps: 5 things you need to know
As we’ve shown, the benefits of constant pressure pumps are many. But what really seals the argument is the cost comparison between the two over time. Here’s our run down on the Nastec cost advantage to your business and bottom line:
There are many factors influencing the overall cost of the pump technology you choose for a borehole. Purchase price is just one, as well as the cost of installation. You also need to consider operational costs including energy use, call-outs for maintenance intervention or repairs and even premature replacement. Then there’s the potential impact on quality of life, service continuity and business resilience from a borehole that sustains water supply at the required pressure on demand. It’s not hard to see why constant pressure technology is coming into its own and replacing the limited and outdated fixed speed pump.
Fixed pressure borehole pumps may come with a lower price-tag. But once you have installed large bladder tank with pressure switch and ancillary fittings, the costs can easily equate to a constant pressure system without any of the performance, energy efficiency and reduced maintenance benefits.
A fixed pressure pump may look like the cheapest option, but it could end up costing you double in the long run. Even with a warranty, you will not be covered for removal and reinstallation due to a failure or servicing requirements.
The effective working volume of a bladder tank starts at an average of 60% of its actual size and is dependent on the tank pressure set. If the bladder fails, the pump will stop and start excessively on frequent low demand and will damage the borehole pump. With nothing to protect against this, maintenance and pressure setting for the bladder tank needs constant attention.
As a general rule of thumb, fixed speed pumps are ideal for pump testing a well but not as a long-term energy efficient choice.
