Carrying on from last year’s successful exhibition, Subcon 2014 (NEC, Birmingham, June 3-5) will once again host the hugely popular Engineer Conference. This year, the final keynote presentation ‘The factory of the future and the future of British Manufacturing’ will be given by Hamid Mughal, the head of global manufacturing at Rolls-Royce.
It has certainly been a busy time for Rolls-Royce. Having won offshore design and equipment orders for more than £60million, the company recently announced that it has signed an agreement to sell its Energy gas turbine and compressor business to Siemens for a £785 million cash consideration.
Now, the company has secured a contract to design and equip a large offshore support vessel for Norwegian ship owner Island Offshore. The vessel, named Island Victory, will be a multi-functional design with a flexible operational profile, and will be one of the largest vessels in Island Offshore’s fleet. The contract value to Rolls-Royce is approximately £35m.
John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President – Offshore, said: “Once again Island Offshore has ordered a tailor made vessel to meet current and future market needs. We truly enjoy working with this ship owner and take pride in the fact that they repeatedly choose our design team in Norway as their partner.”
