Heating sales and installations have been steady for the last few weeks but with the recent colder temperatures, some customers are already preparing for winter. We replaced a very old Powrmatic Commercial One oil cabinet heater this month with a brand new Powrmatic CPO of the same heat output. The premises had suffered a major flood earlier in the year resulting in the cabinet being submerged in water for a period of time causing major corrosion to the chassis. When we attended site the customer informed us that the flue leaked water badly and asked if we could repair it. Initially we were going to connect onto the existing flue using an increaser, but following discussions with the client we replaced a few more sections of flue and installed a lead sheet to cover the roof penetration and installed a new Deks flashing. Apart from the original flue leaking badly, the flue increased from six inches to ten inches which can cause a great velocity slow down of the flue gases and cause increased condensing. The heater and flue were installed and the heater commissioned. Powrmatic Heater Install Aug 2014 During the factory shut down period at another site, we carried out site wide service of around thirty suspended gas unit heaters, mostly old atmospheric heaters. Two of the units had fairly large cracks to the heat exchangers, rendering them scrap. Cracks in the older style clash shell heat exchangers are classified as Immediately Dangerous and the appliance needs to be taken out of service and made safe. Carbon Monoxide could escape from the cracks and be released into the workplace and forced air from the unit fan can also blow back inside the heat exchanger and cause issues with the combustion. Following a successful quote we attended site and fully removed the old heaters and replaced them with two new Powrmatic NVx gas unit heaters. The customer retained the old controls and new flue systems were installed. We also added fused spurs to the electrical supplies to enable isolation during service and maintenance.
