PUMP AND PIPEWORK INSTALLATION, HUMIDIFICATION SECTION ON AIR HANDLING UNIT

We we asked to install a twin pump set to the wash section of a humidification air handling unit. All the materials were free issue and we had to install the kit the next day, as the plant needed to be in service fairly quickly. All the pipework was ABS plastic and required careful sanding, cleaning with proprietary solvent then gluing together with ABS Cement supplied by the pipe manufacturer. Careful preparation of the pipework ensures that there are no leaks and working pressures can be maintained. The two mounting frames were located and fixed into position and the heavy Grundfoss pumps lifted into place by hand and fixed in position. The water supply to the pumps was taken from the stainless steel wash tank. No gaskets were supplied so we hand cut several on site from suitable Klingerite and then installed the flanges. Anti vibration bellows were bolted onto the pumps then suitable stub flanges bolted into place to convert over to plastic. The two tank feeds were joined together and fed to both pump inlets. No valves were supplied so these will be added in the future. Each of the pump outlets was valved then the two outlets joined together with a Tee. The pipework then enters the water tank and splits with a further Tee where is joins the spray bars using Viking Johnson style connectors. A further pipe can be seen leaving the tank, this forms a 4″ drain which is used to periodically dump the water. We originally installed around 70M of solvent welded 4″ pipework to form the drain for the air handling unit which runs horizontally along the outside of the building and empties directly into the site wet well. There were no leaks on the system when completed and 48 hours later the air handling unit was commissioned by the manufacturer and placed into service.
